Thai academics and students from two major universities in Bangkok have appealed to Thai government to stop twisting history of Khmer-Thai borders in order to avoid embarrassment to the Thai nation.
Academics and students from Chulalongkorn and Thammasat universities have also appealed to the Thai government to stop using maps unilaterally drawn by Thailand and start using the Dangrek maps drawn by the Franco-Siamese Mixed Commission between 1904 to 1907 which were internationally recognised.
In 1908, eleven maps were printed by the Franco-Siamese Mixed Commision and have been distributed to technically interested quarters around the world. One hundred and sixty (160) pieces of maps containing 11 maps in each piece have been printed. Fifty (50) pieces were given to the Thai delegation in Paris, the Thai representatives (ambassadors) in the UK, Germany, Russia and the United States. Some of the maps had also been given to the Thai government in Bangkok.
Many analysts said the appeals of the Thai academics and students from the two major universities to the Thai government to stop twisting history and stop using the maps unilaterally drawn by Thailand are appropriate because the Dangrek maps were recognised by the international community and the International Court of Justice in 1962.
It's about time that Thai students just wake up and ask their Thai govt to stop spreading hatred.
